The Importance of Leave-In Conditioners

Some people underestimate the importance of Leave-In Conditioners. These conditioners are very beneficial to the hair. They keep the cuticle sealed. Conditioners can also protect the hair from outside elements such as heat from the sun as well as it acts as a pH Balancer.

The pH scale shows that hair sits naturally at level 4.5 - 5.5. Anytime the hair goes in to the alkaline zone (7-13) it will be opened. Whenever the hair goes into an acidic zone (1 - 6) the cuticle is closed. Water sits on the pH scale at 7 which tells us that water can slightly raise the cuticle.

It's good to be aware of the effects on hair when it's in each zone.  The process of shampooing the hair is opening the cuticle and conditioning is closing the cuticle.

What happens when you rinse the hair for the last time? Will it raise the cuticle? The answer is yes. That's why it's very important to apply a leave-in conditioner on your hair. This helps it to close that cuticle and restore the pH of your hair.

Hair that has a closed cuticle is smooth, retains moisture and has a lot of movement. This is key for healthy looking hair! 😉
