Thinking Positive...Does it really work?

One of the most difficult challenging for me has been controlling my thoughts. Thoughts can play a very primary part in how our days turn out as well as influencing the road or direction you go in life. Being filled with doubt can often make you change your plans or cause stress to the mind and body which in turn can cause other health problems later on if not checked. Thoughts can make you assume things that aren’t true or encourage you to pursue big goals. Often times if we get carried away with our thoughts we may find ourselves in low vibrating places or in high vibrating places. It’s all dependent on what you're thinking about and thinking positive about a situation versus negative can make a tremendous difference in the outcome of your circumstances.

As human beings we think of a lot of things. Many thoughts can zoom through our minds at any given moment. But what does positive thinking mean? How do we incorporate this task into our lives? This is the question I ask myself everyday as it is posed upon my mind in every situation I come across. The concept of switching a negative situation to a positive situation. The concept sounds easy although it’s consistency in everyday situations reveals how complex it really is or how complex it seems to be. Positive thinking can only be defined by the particular situation that’s going on at any given moment. If the moment represented is one that is pleasant and comfortable then the positive thinking aspect of it is fairly easy. But if the situation is mind boggling and troublesome like losing a dear friend, becoming unemployed, or not being able to afford college then the positive thinking concept requires a lot more thought.

Positive thinking is not giving into the negative or in other words not giving into fear. Fear is negativity. Whatever thoughts we allow to occupy or mind are the thoughts we gravitate towards ourselves. “As a man thinketh in his heart, so is he.” Proverbs 23; 7. This means that however you think, (“as a man thinketh”) with conviction (“in his heart”), will manifest into your life. We are our thoughts. If fear were our thought then it would make since that we fuel fear by just thinking about it. We can produce negative situations thinking negatively. It would be wise to not think fearfully for it produces fearful things, which are negative and this applies to relationship situations, job situations, friendship situations, etc. To counteract that, we must think positively so that we attract more positive situations.

The concept of thinking positively sounds easy but can be very difficult for a lot of people. The difficulty in thinking this way is that all of us have not been challenged enough to believe all the powerful things we can do with the mind. No one ever told us that we could think it, believe it, then see it. “Mind is the Master power that moulds and makes, And Man is Mind, and evermore he takes the tool of Thought, and, shaping what he wills, brings forth a thousand joys, a thousand ills: — he thinks in secret, and it comes to pass: Environment is but his looking-glass.” – James Allen. Doesn’t knowing this about the mind make the concept of thinking positively seem easier? Have you ever though of someone and they seem to pop up out of the blue? Have you ever launched an idea or project and watched all the little details work themselves out? Have you ever just finished someone’s sentence? That’s because it was on your mind it was in your thoughts. Your focus on it delivered it right to you. God has given us the power of choice and therefore we must choose to think positively. It’s all about the choices we make in life. What will you choose to think about?

Some of you may say, “ Well, I think positively all the time but I don’t always produce positively. “ If this is what you would say then ask yourself if you often give up on what you’re thinking because you don’t see it yet and then let doubt come through and become your focus again. Many of us are not patient enough to wait for what we are trying to manifest and then we give up because it’s taking to long. The world that Martin Luther King, Jr. dreamed where whites and blacks walked together hand and hand was a real place. We see it today, although Martin Luther King, Jr. died before he was able to see that dream here on earth. King’s dream is still manifesting as we live and will sure see it’s truest form in years to come. How long are you willing to wait for something that means a lot to you? If you love it enough you’ll wait forever, right? That’s the test that shows you’re worthy of it. Of course through God all things are possible. That’s what we must not forget. Through our faith all things can happen. What we believe; we can achieve. So if you’ve been thinking negatively for a long time you could be working against the grain when thinking positively because you have to wait to finish producing all the negative you’ve thought about. Think of the concept of making cold bath water in a tub turn into hot bath water. If the bath water is already cold and you turn the faucet on to put hot water into the tub to make it hot the tub won’t instantly become hot. You would have to wait for the hot water being introduced to replace the cold water or in other words you would have to wait to fill up the tub with hot water instead of cold water. This is an example of the concept of positive thinking over negative thinking.

We must also remember that what we confide in God we must confide only in God “ he thinks in secret, and it comes to pass: Environment is but his looking-glass.” We all are connected. Our thoughts give out vibrations that effect our environment. It’s safe to say that our thoughts are to our worlds as pebbles are to a pond. As we throw out a thought (pebble) into our world (pond) it causes an effect through vibrations (ripples). What we choose to occupy our mind is very important. What we think is as important as life and death. So next time you pose a question to yourself like “are our thoughts important?” answer, “ Yes!” and then, think carefully.

The sense of positive thinking will change your whole environment. I have practice it for several years. God moved in my life miraculously when I changed my way of thinking. The most important part of positive thinking is that its contagious, that good energy will pour into others. Greg, this is a great article!
