Transformation: A Renewing of the Mind

Still silence rings in the dark. Light creeps in through the flicking of a candle lit. The surrounding is clear and empty inviting contemplation. If only there was a soft touch to add to the scene, the caress of a loving hand the touch of a passionate sensation. No one is there, only the dark , the still reminiscences of time moving apart. Feelings, thoughts, dreams all collide in one moment. One that slowly passes by as I resent having to own it. . A space in time that encapsulates me. I know why it has come as it has before. Not what I want but something that I need once more.

Not an unfamiliar place, I could almost call it home. The dark crevasse of abandon, an empty bed and sheets with no scent. An empty night stand where old intentions went. Memories never cease to visit in this web of thought. Recollection stays fresh mixed in an air of regret and old times I sought. The feeble reflections of human nature sit here in my presence and in my mind.  Perhaps it’s all for a reason, one that the silence has come to define. If only the past I could let die so the door to freedom could finally open. My heart would rejoice from these invisible chains being broken.  But not yet it seems, the transformation isn’t done with me, it keeps working and working even in my uncertainty….

These are the contemplations that move through us in the stillness of passing time. We shuffle through these thoughts as Father Time invites us to stay a while in his embrace. To sit with him by his side as we figure out our direction through existence. As we travel up roads we’ve never traveled before we wonder what might be next on the horizon that we need to be prepared for.

Transformation can sometimes seem like a dark road, but one that actually leads  to the light. It can happen in nature, in society, in a group of people, or even in a business. But when contemplating this concept one wonders how you recognize when it’s happening? In the process change starts to occur and the change can be more than just what you see. We can transform our positions in life or transform our appearance but those are just external manifestations of the real transformation that occurs within.

Another question posed is while under transformation does a person actually just change all of a sudden or is it a long process that is constantly occurring over the coarse of many years? How do you know if you’re transformed if you look the same way on the outside but feel different inside? Can people change themselves to be who they want to be simply by acting a different way or is it only a true transformation when they can’t help but to be the new person that is different from the one they were before?

Through the years what I’ve come to know is that transformation can never occur without reevaluation first. Before you take off transforming you have to have a direction that you’re transforming towards. In order to have the right direction you have to first know where you are and from there you can determine which way to go. As time goes by you can see if the transformation is on going or if it has stopped.

Over time we constantly go through this process and we may do it without clearly knowing that that’s what we’re doing. We have something that happens to us like being fired from a position, a bad breakup, or a relocation that makes us stop, slow down and assess our direction. Although times like those may seem like the end of the world in most cases it is the beginning of a new world. A new world facilitated through our minds that reflects the new way of thinking we have come to realize. Pain and hurt come as death so to speak to our old selves and through that death we transcend to become something else. In our early phases of life we fail to see this but over time our lens starts to see this pattern. Knowing this we start to embrace our hardships understanding that they have come to teach us and transform us for our greater development. When we have times such as the ones we find ourselves in today we can rest assured knowing that we will come through it even better than we were before.

Rather the darkness has come over a career, relationship, situation, or a society, it can be understood that it is the beginning of a change. The beginning of a change that we will eventually be better for after the dark stage passes.“ When you change the way you look at things, the things you look at change” says Wayne Dyer and when we really look at these words we understand that whatever is transforming may take on many forms but our job is to stay the coarse allowing the direction we have decided to take form. In the mists of change times can seem dark but even without seeing we must know that it is towards the light in which we embark.
