You know there are some really really dope artists on Instagram and other social media platforms who I feel are SO dope, but sometimes are just off in the Cut chillin’. This week I would like to High Light the very inspiring Hair Artist Michelle O’Conner!
Now Michelle probably doesn’t need this high light however she is so amazing and so inspiring to me that I had to do a piece on her. Michelle has been in the hair industry for years working for large brands like Mizani, JCPenny’s, which is now The Salon By Instyle, and currently sits as one of the Creative Directors for The Salon by Instyle and is an Artistic Director for Matrix . She has also won multiple NAHA (North American Hairstyling Awards) particularly in the Texture category. Whenever I see a creation by Michelle I and am in awe with the creativity and imagination entailed in producing such great work. Being an accomplished artist is one thing but also having a warm personality with a sense of empathy and compassion for the industry as well as for other up and coming stylists is another. She has always been so encouraging to me and one thing I took from one of our conversations together was that “ When something is beautiful Greg, its just beautiful”. That still rings in my head sometimes when I think a piece of my work hasn’t been notice. Its a voice that reminds me that something doesn’t have to have a million likes or be recognized by the world to still be beautiful. That was very affirming for me. It’s light giving moments like that for why I admire her so much.
With so much going on in work and personal life one has to have lots of endurance especially to still carry such a nice and positive attitude through all the deadlines obligations and expectations that come with so much responsibility. If you’ve ever had a chance to meet Michelle you would see and experience this genuine and passionate soul. I admire Michelle’s work ethic, creativity, and optimistic nature. I am inspired by the work she has produced over the years and love seeing anything that she posts on here Instagram feed. She is truly a great example of integrity and talent within the industry. I feel that she represents well and is so articulate about how she delivers her dialogue on hair and her process.
Michelle O’Conner has done many hair shows and has graced the stages of some of the worlds largest hair conventions such as Premier Orlando and will be taking her artistry along with the rest of the Matrix creative team to Spain next month September 29th - October 1st showing them amazing hair creations and shinning her light over the big stage as she has so many times before.
