Artist Spotlight - Sandra Page Edwards

You know there are some really really dope artists on Instagram and other social media platforms who I feel are SO dope, but sometimes are just off in the Cut chillin’. This week I would like to highlight a very special Stylist and Person Sandra Page Edwards

Sandra, who we all affectionately called “ Shay “, was a modest soul who gave love and was so pleasant to be around. You would never know it but Shay was the lead Hair stylist on major movies such as ‘ The Begiled “, “ 20th Century Women “, and “ Nina “. Other credits include Neon Demon (2016),  Extant (2015) and  Grey’s Anatomy ( 2011-2016). I first met Shay when I worked at Jasmine Ashley Salon on Wilshire Blvd over 7 years ago and even then she was so kind. Many times she would give me advice and encouragement while I navigated the hairstyling terrane trying to find my nitch and secure my footing in an unknown land. Shay mostly did braiding in the salon. Her artistry in Braids was amazing and some of the most creative I’ve seen. Just like many stylist tho Shay was multi faceted and was skilled in styling all textures of hair. Usually when you think of hairstyling you thing pretty and every hair in place however when working on movies and television shows everyday looking hair can be a whole different way of styling and dressing the hair. Character building is what Shay did working with the other artists on set to construct a real life everyday person. Messy hair or uncontrived hair, as they call it, was a talent all it’s own. But Shay not only worked on character building on set she did it throughout her everyday living touching the lives of so many who came across her path. So many times key hairstylist go unnoticed in the industry when they have contributed so much to others. Shay was one of those artist having had worked with many celebrities such as Jada Pinkett Smith, Nicole Kidman, Elle Fanning, Regina King, and Kelly McCreary to name a few. Shay passed away 2 years ago from cancer but she will never be forgotten. A smile or a simple gesture can make a big difference in a persons life and Shay definitely did that every day. She impacted my life in a positive way and I will always have place for her in my heart
