You know there are some really really dope artists on Instagram and other social media platforms who I feel are SO dope, but sometimes are just off in the Cut chillin’. This week I would like to highlight the tenacious and determined Stylist DEssence Alston.
DEssence is a comprehensive short hair Artist who has traveled and lived in many different cities all while maintaining her craft and passion for Hairstyling. I first met DEssence in San Diego when she offered her salon space to me to use for my prep before doing a presentation for Sola Salons in the city. While in her company I learned some of her story. Because her Husband is in the Navy she has had to travel to and live in different cities, some even outside the country, like China. Although Her and her family have moved frequently to different territories over the years she has been able to maintain her craft and has become savvy over time with building a clientele over and over again. I’m sure she due to her experience she has acquired lots of insight on what to do if your a hairstylist and relocating to a new city. When I look at DEssence’s work I can see the disciple inherit in her craft and the knowledge of a stylist who has been around and learned a lot about her field. DEssence’s specialty is cuts and color and she also educates other stylist on how they can achieve great results especial with African American hair or relaxed hair. Her story was very inspiring to me and showed me that you can achieve wherever you are as long as you have the tenacity to stick with your passion and the disciple to continue with what you start. Right now DEssence is currently based in San Diego California and has a clientele that has grown and continues to grow. From my knowledge I understand that it can be difficult to find someone in the San Diego area who can work skillfully with relaxed short hair. I commend DEssence for her unyielding ambition and I’m highlighting her as an example of one who conforms to the process of life and by doing so still achieves wonderful results.
