Hair Color Transformation

Color Formula for “ Changing Personas” with My Boo Basmah
Total Transformation

This was a really good example of the transformational powers of cosmetology. I was happy to have this opportunity with Basmah and it’s a blessing to receive an open and willing candidate for such a drastic cut and color project.

Basmah started with mid length hair. She is naturally a level 4 with a 2C texture Type (wavy). Basmah was growing out her hair specifically to have a blank canvas for this transformation. She has been planning on cutting and coloring her hair since last year.

Basmah’s “Pixie Bob” (which is what I like to call her haircut. Similar to a Paige Boy Cut) was rough draft cut before the color application to remove and access hair that didn’t need to be colored. Sectioning off the apex area, I begin to cut vertically using diagonal partings. Staying below the partial ridge. Cut this way using a traveling guild and work around the head from temple to temple. When that was finished I worked the length from the occipital area to the crown by parting horizontally and overdirecting the hair back towards me. I  point cut using a stationary guild. By overdirecting the hair, I was able to preserve length towards the front.

With the hair color I started by lifting the hair up using “ Blonde Me “ lightener with 40 volume and Olaplex to a level 10 with a foil to foil method in the apex/top. The sides and back were lifted to a level 8.

The toner that I used for this particular blonding project was as follows:
Permanent ( Wella) 15g of 8/1+ 15g of 8/0 + 60 grams of 20 Volume for the root and permanent 15 grams of 12/81 + 30 Volume and Olapex
